Frequently asked questions
- What is CompTIA SecurityX (CAS-005)?
- SecurityX is the rebranded name for CASP+ (CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner). CAS-005 is the current exam version. It's the most advanced CompTIA cybersecurity certification, targeting senior practitioners and architects.
- Why is it called SecurityX instead of CASP+?
- CompTIA rebranded CASP+ to SecurityX to launch its CompTIA Xpert Series of expert-level certifications. Existing CASP+ holders were automatically converted to SecurityX, and the CAS-005 exam introduced updated objectives at the same time.
- Should I get Security+ or CySA+ before SecurityX?
- Yes, SecurityX assumes you already hold Security+ and ideally CySA+ or equivalent experience. CompTIA recommends 10+ years of IT experience with at least 5 in security before attempting SecurityX.
- Does SecurityX have a passing score?
- No, unlike most CompTIA exams, SecurityX is pass/fail with no scaled score. CompTIA does not publish the passing threshold, which means you either pass or fail with no score to reference.
- What roles benefit most from SecurityX?
- Security Architect, Senior Security Engineer, Technical Lead, CISO (entry level), and Principal Security Analyst. It's for people making design decisions, not just following procedures. It is also approved for DoD 8140 cyberspace work roles.
